What does it mean "Put on Christ

To be a Christian is to put on Jesus Christ. But what does it mean to put on the Lord Jesus Christ? It's to walk like Jesus walked, live as He lives, talk as He talks, think as He thinks, do as He does.

Take ‘Ronald McDonald’ for example. When we see him in any of the McDonalds Restaurants anywhere in the world – China, Africa, India, USA, Europe… he looks exactly the same. Even little children recognises him and are excited to see him. But we know that inside is a real man – whose face and name is unimportant to us, neither are we keen to know. To put on Christ is exactly the same. When we walk, talk, live, breathe, think, act and do all as Jesus would do, then, all over the world, people will start to see the same Christ. Matthew 5 – 7 offer great insights on what Jesus would do and how He thinks. As we follow these instructions of life, we become like Him, we become His disciples, and Christ will be magnified in our lives. To put on Jesus also mean that we put off sin. "And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin" (1John 3:5). The old man along with all his fleshly desires were destroyed. "Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am tempted by God;' for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn by his own desires and enticed." (James 1:13) To put on Christ is to live in His resurrected life. It's to live by the power of God, His Holy Spirit. When we’ve made the sure decision to obey Jesus all the way, God gives us His Spirit of grace and power to overcome – even as Jesus Christ our Lord overcame by the power of the same Spirit. "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." (Romans 8:11) What an inheritance God had bestowed upon us? The authority of Jesus Christ, executed right now by the power of the Holy Spirit upon Satan’s work, that sinful men are transformed into saints. God has proven this through Paul, who tried to destroy His church, Peter who denied Him 3 times, Nicodamus who was too ashamed to openly acknowledge Him, Mary out of whom He casted out 7 demons, John Newton the slave trader, and the thieves, and drug addicts, and prostitutes of our day. There is a sure conversion from the old to the new. Christ our Saviour, Christ our Lord. His, is the judgment on sin and His, too, is the grace unto salvation, righteousness and holiness. Now we've put on Christ, now we're born again, now the kingdom of God has come, in Jesus name.
